What is ECD |
English Country Dancing is a traditional form of dance, from Morris to Barn to Playford, but how to explain it? Both our featured clubs sway towards Playford but not exclusively. |
If you have seen Pride and Prejudice or Sense and Sensibility or even Emma then you will have a pretty good idea from some of the ballroom scenes, however although the steps are the same the dress code is less formal, in fact almost any casual dress with soft soled shoes is acceptable. |
Some dance tunes are from old folk songs others from the classics, some are light and jolly, others may be steadier. One thing you will find is that they are all easy to listen to and easy to dance to. The steps and moves are laid down by the caller, you may start as a group of four, or eight, you will move with a partner, often changing as the dance progresses. |
